Facebook Messenger Gets "Big" Likes & Instant Video Sharing

In a time when messaging platforms may outnumber the people you'd ever want to message, one of the more popular options—Facebook Messenger—received a big update for both Android (must be part of the free beta program) and iOS, going from version 5.0 to 6.0.

Starting today, you can vary the size of the "thumbs up"-like graphic, so your thread will have a better idea whether you like something, sort of like something, or really, really like something. Okay, it's somewhat trivial, but as someone that uses the app quite a big and fully takes advantage of the like button as well as stickers and emojis, I'm all for the sliding scale of "likes".

Additionally, you can now send 15-second or less instant video. Simply select the Camera option, then press-and-hold while recording.

Sharing those "in-the-moment" scenes is now incredibly easy, and very similar to new features introduced in Apple's iOS Messages app. Head to your respective app store and grab or update the app to see the changes, and enjoy even more fun/ridiculous ways to communicate...you know, without actually speaking.

Just updated your iPhone? You'll find new emoji, enhanced security, podcast transcripts, Apple Cash virtual numbers, and other useful features. There are even new additions hidden within Safari. Find out what's new and changed on your iPhone with the iOS 17.4 update.

Facebook is driven by shareholders now so I'm not surprised they continue to come out with new ways to interact with their service. The million dollar question is: Who at Facebook is working on the "sarcastic font" and will another company (ahem, Google) beat them to it?

I sure hope so. Pretty certain I've unintentionally offended a few people in my day, so that sarcasm font couldn't come fast enough.
