'Wake N Shake' iPhone Alarm Helps You Get Out of Bed Faster by Competing with Friends

If the number of apps designed to make getting out of bed easier tells us one thing, it's that people hate waking up. Whether it's because you're dreading going to work or school, or just stayed out a little too late the night before, it's almost never fun.

The team behind the "merciless" alarm clock isn't exactly aiming to make getting up any easier, they just want to help you get better at it with an iOS app called Wake N Shake that turns the worst part of your morning routine into a competition.

This app may not be great for those who wake up angry—it's called the merciless alarm clock for a reason. Once the alarm starts to go off, the only way to make it stop is "by shaking the hell out of the iPhone."

There is no snooze button or alternative method. Once you commit, that's it.

What will really wake you up, though, is the social aspect. You can earn achievements and score points against your friends by using the app, and each week, a king or queen is crowned based on who has the most "shake points."

Even if you don't want to play the game, the app is still awesome at its main purpose, which is waking your ass up. If that obnoxious evil laugh sound isn't enough to get you up and at 'em, I don't know what will.

It's worth noting that if you set an alarm in Wake N Shake, you have to leave the app running in the foreground for it to work due to a limit on third-party alarm apps in iOS. The app makers say to just place your iPhone face down on your bed or desk, and the proximity sensor will turn off the screen.

Wake N Shake is on sale for 50% off right now ($0.99) to celebrate the "social wake up revolution," so head on over to the App Store and download it now.
